Korean pop culture invaded us (Filipinos) for the past years. We are one known country to have people who, without a doubt, worship K-pop groups like Blackpink, BTS, EXO (and the long list goes on), singing their songs as if we truly understand every single word – indeed a die-hard fan.
Korean culture continue to penetrate ours, from fashion, TV shows up to the food we love to munch on.
Yes food! Korean food selections already caught every Filipino’s tastebuds today and one of these is the undeniably everyone’s favorite now, THE Korean Samgyupsal.
Restaurant that serves Samgyupsal sprouted like mushrooms in different food hub districts in the metro now.
Samgyupsal : The Origin
Samgyupsal or Samgyeop-sal (삼겹살) means “three layer flesh,” referring to striations of lean meat and fat in the pork belly that appear as three layers when cut. (Source: wikipedia.com)
According to Trifood.com , samgyupsal is a popular Korean meat dish that is enjoyed at home or at Korean restaurants. It usually consists of thick pork strips, served in the same fashion as galbi (grilled beef short ribs) but there is no marinating involved. It is usually cooked on a grill with pa muchim, kimchi, mushrooms, garlic, onions and consumed altogether.
The Rise of Premier
Since I started my Keto diet, my usual meal plan includes different meat dishes. When I discovered and finally give in in this Samgyupsal craze, I started including this on my diet plan (every 2 weeks I guess, LOL).
I love the whole set-up of grilling the meat, wrapping the cooked ones in a lettuce and enjoying the different side dishes, that totally add up to the whole Korean flavor.
I recently had my lunch at Premier, The Samgyupsal (this is just my second time here) and I got the same experience when I first tried their restaurant- it was ‘awesomely’ satisfying.
Their San Juan branch, along Wilson, has its second floor to accommodate more Samgyupsal lovers. Probably this answers their dilemma on customers lining up during lunch and dinner time.
They have the usual Samgyupsal restaurant interior but their tables are much bigger, I believe. Well-maintained and organized, which is a plus-plus point for me.
I ordered the same Premier UnliMix they recommended me last time. If you are craving for fresh pork, beef and chicken meat and finish as much plates as you can in one sitting, this Unlimix promo is the answer, surely a filling meal – expect a bloated tummy after!
Premier UnliMix includes 8 kinds of pork, beef and chicken meat (Aged Samgyupsal, Moksal, Spicy Chicken, Soy Chicken, Marinated Pork, Woosamgyup, Marinated Beef, Beef Bulgogi).
I personally like their marinated meat. Savory, tastes really good and just right for me, unlike other restaurants that serve the same but are either too sour or too sweet, not my cup of tea.
Aside from these, they have 15 complimentary sides (my personal favorites are their fish cake and kimchi sides) and unlimited cups of rice.
Complimentary sides are more than enough and are perfect partners to the grilled meat and actually, I enjoyed the meat best with all these unlimited sides (plus the lettuce) and not with rice.
Apart from their canned and bottled soda drinks, this Wilson, San Juan branch offers different alcoholic drinks as well to satisfy those customers who usually ask for it and are more content when they partnered these liquor beverages with Samgyupsal. In addition, if you want a break from your meat-munching or want some dessert after an hour of eating, they are also offering Korean ice cream bars, just approach the attendants and ask for the available flavors.
We usually say that a restaurant has a poor customer service when we tried requesting for their presence but failed to approach us immediately. This is not a problem in this branch since they have a built in ‘buzzing button’ (as I tagged it, LOL) in every table. So whenever you will need something, you just need to press this button and it will automatically give food attendants a signal plus a specific table number will also flash on their order screen. A smart way to make sure customer’s needs are immediately attended to. Good job!
After more than an hour, I’m done with all the grilling and finally got my craving tastebuds satisfied. Super busog!
