The cast of the upcoming Silver Lining Redux, that will run from November 8-10 and November 15-17 at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium, RCBC Plaza
Calling all musical theater enthusiasts—mark your calendars because Silver Lining Redux, the heartwarming and nostalgia-filled Original Filipino Musical, is making a triumphant return this November 2024! After its successful debut last year, Rockitwell Studios and MusicArtes, Inc. are bringing back this gem of a production with a fresh spin and new exciting twist, and it’s slated for an exciting eight-show run at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium in RCBC Plaza, Makati.
What is Silver Lining Redux?
According to its creator and producer, Mr. Jack Teotico, Silver Lining isn’t about politics. “The story is not political. Instead, this is a story of love, relationships in a specific setting, which started during martial law,” Teotico explained. The musical follows the lives of three high school friends as they journey through the vibrant 60s and 70s, through university life at UP Diliman, and into adulthood. Through love, friendship, and the ups and downs of life, the characters embody hope and resilience during one of the most tumultuous eras in Philippine history.
With its nostalgic look back at the baby boomers’ generation and the flower power movement, Silver Lining Redux promises to be more than just a history lesson—it’s a touching reflection on relationships, dreams, and the enduring power of hope. This new edition has been revamped in several key areas, says Director Maribel Legarda: “We revamped the story, the music, and the characters, compared to the first run last year.”
The original run in 2023 garnered widespread acclaim, receiving five Aliw Award nominations, including Best Director, Best Musical, and Best Actor. Now, with this reimagined version, the production aims to take audiences even deeper into the emotional journey of its characters while exploring new layers of storytelling.
Meet the Cast and Creative Team
This year’s cast is packed with theater royalty and rising stars alike. Veteran actor and director Ricky Davao joins the team not only as a performer but also as the Line Producer. Davao, known for his extensive work in film, TV, and theater, shared his thoughts on his return to the stage: “Doing theater is going back to what I started; it’s a restart,” he said. “Iba ang dedication, iba ang high. It’s priceless. It’s magical when performing on stage—hindi nababayaran ‘yun. High na high ka, in ecstasy, lalo na pag maganda ang material. Magical ang pagbabalik sa teatro,” Davao added, expressing his passion for live performance and the irreplaceable thrill of being on stage.
The star-studded cast also includes Jake Macapagal, Raul Montesa (Miss Saigon Germany), Gina Respall (Miss Saigon UK), Krystal Brimner (Star Magic artist), and Drei Sugay (ABS-CBN recording artist). Returning to reprise their roles are Albert Silos, Jay Cortez, and Sara Sicam, alongside new cast members Raflesia Bravo (Agnes) and Moi Gealogo (Chito). Millennial characters will be portrayed by Don Anthony, Johnnie Moran, and Dippy Arceo, adding a fresh dynamic to the beloved story.
The creative team includes some of the most celebrated names in Philippine theater. With musical direction by Vince Lim (Walang Aray) and choreography by PJ Rebullida, Silver Lining Redux promises a visually stunning and musically rich experience, while director Maribel Legarda and composer Jack Teotico ensure the heart and soul of the original remain intact.
What the Critics are Saying
If the rave reviews from its original run are any indication, Silver Lining Redux is a must-see. ShowbizPortal.net called it “an inspiring and optimistic story about friendship and adulthood,” while News2.abs-cbn.com described it as “a reflection on the past and a glimpse into the challenges of today’s generation.” Julianna Cabilli from Tatler praised the “rousing musical numbers and stellar performances,” and Butch Dalisay of Philstar noted that Silver Lining resonates with both older and younger audiences who want to understand the experiences of previous generations.
Nostalgia Meets Relevance
While Silver Lining Redux serves up plenty of nostalgia for baby boomers who lived through the 60s and 70s, it also connects with today’s issues, making it relatable to younger generations. As Mr. Jack Teotico emphasizes, this is ultimately a story about love and relationships, set against the backdrop of a pivotal time in Philippine history. With revamped music and characters, the show offers both a fresh perspective for returning audiences and a powerful new experience for first-timers.
