(Updated) We’ve been dealing with this calamity every year but it seems like our system and leaders aren’t always ready whenever the same adversity hits us. We are always unprepared to face another typhoon, risk reduction developments aren’t evident every time, preventive measures are, sad to say, still missing (despite having a council specific for this) .

It is heartbreaking to see on TV and socmeds similar scenarios that happened in the past due to a typhoon- for Metro Manila’s case, it was the destructive 2009 Ondoy. I am preparing myself for another glaring aftermath numbers caused by Ulysess. 😢😢

My thoughts

Aerial view of Marikina’s Flood Situation as of 1PM, November 12, 2020

If the budget or government efforts were used on the right projects or action (possibly a Marikina dike instead of a dolomite project? or a clear, planned, and definite communication tool when releasing water from dams, just throwing examples) and weren’t plundered by our dearest politicians (na kahit napatunayan na, hindi pa rin maibalik balik ang pera ng bayan, from the Marcos era up to the latest cases of Revilla and Estrada, ihabol pa natin ang 2020 200M+ Philhealth fraud case, kakapal ng mga mukha!) maybe, just maybe, a 5-10-year preparation time for another huge damaging typhoon, that will possibly land in our country, would be enough to build counter projects or at least an action plan that will change how things are being handled (yung mas ready, parang gera lang! Sa Marikina for instance, dapat sana mas marami na ang rubber boats and other equipment since alam nating mataas ang possiblity na magkaroon ng another Ondoy and sila ang isa sa pinaka in need pag nagkataon, pero still I saw the mayor begging for more life saving equipment, nakakalungkot, nakakaawa ang mga tao! And sa Cagayan and neighbor towns, we all saw how grave that disaster was, no one is assisting them before and during that flooding, I’m sure there are many ways this tragedy has been prevented, hindi lang napaglaanan ng oras at panahon which is very disappointing.) , sad to say, none of these were seen during the onslaught of Typhoon Ulysses.

Same sentiments from the people were heard, same hashtags were seen trending (for several times this year #NasaanAngPangulo or similar to this always reaches the top spot), for same old problematic system and government (I just hope NDRRMC would do further actions after all these that we experienced this year).

Still a huge thank you to everyone -government and non goverment- who braved this typhoon and rescued our dear kababayans. SALUTE!

If only I have more than enough resources to help, assist and do the rescue operations, I will definitely and always be on my toes whenever instances like this will happen, but for now, helping in disseminating information is one of the things I can and will always do to support our kababayans.

We can help in many different ways, even small donations once joined together can go a long long way already. Below are some of the private agencies/ organizations who are doing donation drives for our affected kababayans as of the moment. #Support tayo by donating and also sharing these information to our own socmed accounts.
